Shop owners of Siliguri’s Hong Kong Market accused of allegedly assaulting customers, case registered

Siliguri, 31st October: Tension gripped Siliguri’s Hong Kong market as the shop owners are making headlines for allegedly assaulting the customers. Significantly, the family members of the assault victim have registered a formal complaint regarding the incident at the Panitanki Outpost.


According to reports, Amrita Chhetri, a resident of the Gandhi Nagar area under Ward No. 43 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), went to shop in the Hong Kong Market with her sister-in-law Devi Basnet Tamang and her son Pukar Chhetri. During this, Pukar Chhetri arrived at a slipper store at the market’s second gate and began looking for slippers.

During this, the shopkeeper of the said store allegedly made indecent remarks to the family which prompted a commotion. The altercation took a wrong turn and the family was subjected to a brutal attack by the Hong Kong Market traders. Consequently, the victims sustained severe injuries. In response, a formal complaint was filed at the Panitanki police outpost.

    TO BE TRUTHFUL, WE NEPALI PEOPLE ARE REALLY NOT SAFE IN SILIGURI, THERE IS A BIG PARTALITY AMONG NEPALI AND BANGALI,I DONT FEEL SAFE AT SILIGURI, NOT BECAUSE OF PARTIAITY BUT I HAVE BEEN ASSULTED ASWELL IN GREEN PARK FOR BEING NEPALI, I HAD FILED A WRITTEN COMPLAINT AGAINST THE CULPRIT BUT POLICE TOOK NO ACTION, THE JUST CAME BY THE FIRT DAY, AND THE SECOND DAY THEY JUST LET THE CASE SLIP, NOT ONLY IN HONKONG MARKET THE WHOLE SILIGURI FOR ME IS NOT SAFE, BECAUSE I’VE BEEN ABUSED BY MANY PEOPLE IN SILIGURI FOR BEING A NEPALI, THERE IS A BIG RACISM GOING ON IN SILIGURY WHERE POLIUCE AND THE HIGHER AUTHORITY IS NOT AWARE OF.
