Sexual harassment in NBU: Accused professor removed as department head

Siliguri, 11th October. The head of the Department of Botany was removed from his position at North Bengal University (NBU). This comes after allegations of sexual harassment of a student of the department were raised against the professor.


Earlier, on Wednesday morning, the students of NBU staged a silent protest on the university campus. Following this, an emergency meeting was undertaken by the university. As per reports, the accused professor was removed from his post after the meeting.

In this regard, University Registrar Dr. Swapan Rakshit confirmed that currently the accused professor has been removed from his departmental post. He added that further course of action would be initiated upon receiving the report of the Internal Complaint Committee. Meanwhile, the students expressed dissatisfaction with the University’s decision. They stated that they would continue with the protests in the upcoming days.
