Seven persons from West Bengal conferred with Padma Shri

The government of India announced the Padma awards, one of the highest civilian recognition in the country, on Monday to honour people who have made an exceptional contribution in their respective fields of work.


From West Bengal, seven persons were recognised with Padma Shri for their efforts in social work, literature, education, sports, and art. Their names as follow:
1) Dharma Narayan Barma – Literature and Education
2) Biren Kumar Basak – Art
3) Sujit Chattopadhyay – Literature and Education
4) Mouma Das – Sports
5) Narayan Debnath – Art
6) Jagadish Chandra Halder – Literature and Education &
7) Guru Maa Kamali Soren – Social Work

The Padma Shri is given for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
