Security guards of a private godown protest demanding salary and bonus hike in Rajganj

Rajganj, 16th September: The security guards of a private godown in Rajganj protested demanding a 20 percent hike in salary and bonus, on Thursday. Around 40 security guards work in a godown approved by a multinational beverage company near Fatapukur in Rajganj.


Darpanath Roy, unit secretary of the Trinamool Industrial Estate Workers Union, said that the security guards have been working for the past seven years. However, they get a salary of only Rs 7,500 and bonuses are not given as per the rules. Besides, the security guards are also deprived of other basic facilities. They allegedly requested the authorities multiple times to resolve the issue but to no avail. Hence, they staged a protest today.

On the other hand, Jagjivan Paswan, Area Inspector of the security agency, said that the security guards are being paid salaries and bonuses as per the rules of the West Bengal government. However, their demands will be resolved through discussions.
