School expels politically active teacher in Rajganj, parents protest the move

Rajganj, 23rd February: Shashi Chandra Barman, a teacher of a primary school in the Sri Ramkrishna Vivekananda Ashram in Sahudangi, has been a part of the school for the past 32 years. Barman is also a Trinamool Congress leader and the Binnaguri Gram Panchayat Pradhan.

It has been alleged that the School Management Committee pressurized Barman to apply for voluntary retirement on Wednesday. After the matter came to light, the guardians expressed outrage and demanded to retain Barman in the school. In this context, Shashi Chandra Barman stated that the members of the School Management Committee asked him to sign a written statement to voluntarily retire from his job. However, he refused to do so.

Meanwhile, Swamiji Jivananda Maharaj of the Ashram stated that Barman is associated with politics due to which various important school activities get affected and as per the rules of Belur Math, people involved in politics cannot teach in the Ashram school. He further stated that a final decision will be taken soon after conducting a meeting with the guardians.
