Sandeshkhali Unrest: BJP Mahila Morcha clash with cops during ‘gherao’ at NJP police station

Siliguri, 24th February: Tension grips the area after the BJP Mahila Morcha laid siege to the NJP police station to protest over the Sandeshkhali incident. The incident led to a massive clash between the police officials and the protestors.

Reportedly, since Saturday morning, BJP activists and supporters have assembled at the Railway Institute ground adjacent to the NJP police station. Following this, around 12 noon, BJP activists and supporters marched to the NJP police station, led by Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee. However, when the demonstrators arrived in front of the police station, they were halted by a large police force on the police station ground.

As a result, the protestors took to ‘dharna’ in front of the police station. In addition, the incident resulted in a significant clash between the protestors and the police officials. Later, a BJP delegation met with the OC of the police station.

In this regard, MLA Shikha Chatterjee claimed that the state police are biased towards the ruling party and are creating obstacles for those protesting over the Sandeshkhali incident. She added that despite the immeasurable mental and physical suffering inflicted on the victims of Sandeshkhali, they are attempting to conceal the chief offender, Sheikh Shahjahan. Furthermore, the protestors called for the resignation of the Chief Minister.
