Siliguri, 14th June: The Asian Highway-02 of Kawakhali has now become infamous for frequent road accidents. Many people have lost their lives in a very short period of time due to multiple collisions. Hence, to reduce and monitor the mishaps, a new outpost of traffic police is being built at Kawakhali. The traffic police will start work from Wednesday by setting up a temporary post. An OC and a Sub Inspector will be stationed at the said outpost.
On Tuesday, Traffic ADCP Purnima Sherpa along with officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) took stock of the Asian Highway-02 at Kawakhali. Traffic police personnel have been stationed at the spot to control road accidents. Furthermore, rumble strips are being installed on the road near Kawakhali by the NHAI to check the speed of vehicles.
