Fulbari, 26th June: An unidentified person was killed in a tragic road accident on the Siliguri–Jalpaiguri National Highway near the Jiaganj area of Fulbari on Thursday night.
According to local residents and police sources, a heavy goods vehicle travelling from Jalpaiguri towards Siliguri hit the person near Jiaganj. The impact threw the victim onto the road, resulting in death on the spot.
On receiving information, personnel from the Fulbari Highway Traffic Outpost and New Jalpaiguri Police Station rushed to the spot. The body was recovered and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the truck fled the scene following the accident. The identity of the deceased is yet to be established.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
