Rise in water level of Teesta due to incessant rain, Jalpaiguri Irrigation Dept issues yellow alert

Jalpaiguri, 16th June: The Jalpaiguri Irrigation Department has issued a yellow alert over the areas from Domohani to Bangladesh border since the water level of the Teesta River has risen following heavy rainfall for the last two days. 


Furthermore, District Superintendent of Police Devarshi Dutt took stock of the Teesta river at around 9 pm on Wednesday. Saikat Chatterjee, Vice-Chairman of Jalpaiguri Municipality and other officials were also present with him. Along with the water level of river, the police are also monitoring the condition of the river embankments. 


The Superintendent of Police said that the Irrigation Department and Public Works Department (PWD) will be alerted about the condition of the river. Besides, Jalpaiguri Municipality Vice-Chairman Saikat Chatterjee also added that the District Administration Municipality is on alert to deal with any situation.
