Riot in Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home, police and RAF deployed

Jalpaiguri, 18th April: In an unusual turn of events, on Saturday, the inmates of Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home ignited a clash demanding they be released on bail immediately.


As per the report, some inmates on Saturday insisted on being released on bail. When the authorities refused to accept their demand, the inmates grew violent and started a riot. The prisoners allegedly attacked the jail officials with bricks and also pelted stones when they were asked to maintain government guidelines of maintaining social distance inside the prison. Deployment of police and RAF at the right moment contained the issue to some extent.

The Jalpaiguri Superintendent of Police Abhishek Modi, Additional Superintendent of Police, Srikanta Jagannatharao Elwad, IC of Kotwali Police station Biswas Roy Sarkar, DSP Headquarters Pradeep Sarkar reached the spot immediately.
