Siliguri, 07th July: In a shocking incident, a kidnapping was attempted in Purvanchal under the Pradhan Nagar police station area of Siliguri. A man allegedly tried to abduct a minor girl in broad daylight.
Reportedly, the 5th standard student of Dr Rajendra Prasad Girls High School was returning home from school when a rickshaw driver stopped her and started talking to her. He apparently asked the girl if her eyesight was all right and that if she wanted them to get checked, he would take her to Haldibari to get her eye treated.
Startled by the peculiar encounter, the girl ran home and told her mother about the matter. As the news spread like wildfire in the entire Purvanchal area, locals looked for the rickshaw driver. They somehow managed to nab the accused and informed the Pradhan Nagar police station. Upon receiving the news, the police reached the spot and took the accused rickshaw driver into custody. Meanwhile, after the incident, the people of the area are concerned regarding the safety of the children.
