Rampant e-rickshaw theft in Siliguri exposed, three arrested, several stolen totos recovered

Siliguri, 19th December: In a significant breakthrough, the Siliguri police arrested three members of the notorious gang allegedly involved in toto (e-rickshaw) theft. The arrested accused have been identified as Abir Guha from Jaleswari, and Shyamal Roy and Prasenjit Roy from Maynaguri.


As per reports, on December 12, the Siliguri Police Station received a complaint regarding the theft of a toto parked in front of the Matri Sadan area in Dabgram. Upon investigating the CCTV footage, the police traced the location of the accused Abir Guha, and took him into custody. Following an interrogation, the names of Shyamal Roy and Prasenjit Roy came to light prompting their subsequent arrest. In addition, seven stolen totos were recovered from the Domohani village in Maynaguri, during the investigation.

Investigations revealed that accused Abir was in charge of stealing the totos from various places across Siliguri and selling them in Mainaguri for approximately 30-40 thousand rupees. Further, the license plates on the e-vehicles were removed for safe usage. At present, the police are engaged in further investigation.
