Siliguri, 27th April: As part of the drive to remove illegal encroachments from Railway land, the Railway officials along with RPF conducted an operation in the areas adjoining NJP station this morning. Several temporary shops built on railway properties.
Sujay Sarkar, Joint Secretary of the Siliguri Greater Retail Traders Committee, expressed anger over the officials for demolishing the shops without any prior notice. He stated that for a number of families, those shops were the only source of income. Adding that the Railways should have informed the vendors in advance, Sujay Sarkar asserted that such campaigns by the Railways will not be accepted in the coming days.
