Alipurduar, 12th August: The Rabha Student Union organized a protest march in Alipurduar city, demanding the protection of various rights for forest dwellers. The demonstration concluded with the submission of a memorandum to the Field Director’s office of the Buxa Tiger Reserve.
The protest march commenced from the Alipurduar College Halt area and proceeded to the office of the Field Director, where the protesters expressed their grievances and handed over a formal memorandum.
Leaders of the Rabha Student Union have criticized the forest department for allegedly undermining the rights of forest dwellers. They claimed that the forest department obstructs developmental activities in forest settlement areas prompting the protest. The memorandum includes various demands in favor of the forest communities.
