Questions being raised concerning health, safety system in North Bengal Medical College and Hospital

Siliguri 04th June: The condition of the maternity ward of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital has been pushed from bad to worse. A toxic Parthenium plant has grown on the premises of the maternity ward and at various places. The plant is known to be toxic to farm animals and responsible for allergic diseases in humans. Furthermore, the pillars of the buildings have become dilapidated and the roofs seem like they could collapse at any time.

All the medical waste is lying open inside the medical premises and garbage is scattered everywhere. Above all, stray dogs roaming outside the children’s care unit has become a growing concern. Recently, a dog was caught walking around with the hand of a patient in its mouth. Apart from this, there is also a lack of security in the hospital. Now, the question arises as to why is there so much negligence in the hospital?

In this regard, Medical Superintendent Sanjay Mallick stated that many people visit the hospital every day and the number of shops on the medical premises has also increased. The matter has been reported to the Kolkata Health Department, he said further assuring that the problems would be resolved soon.
