Protest staged in Siliguri over harassment faced by an auto driver

Siliguri, 12th July: An atmosphere of tension was witnessed in Siliguri after an auto driver was allegedly beaten up by the traffic police. Following this, several hundred auto drivers staged a protest.


It has been learned that this morning, an auto driver was allegedly beaten up by the traffic police in the area adjacent to Bidhan Market. After the incident, the auto drivers stopped vehicles and started protesting in Mahatma Gandhi more. Later, high-ranking police officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

The auto drivers demanded that e-rickshaws (Toto) without number plates should not be allowed to ply on the main roads. The situation normalized after the intervention of the police.
