Pre-Panchayat Poll violence in Dinhata, four injured

Cooch Behar, 07th July: Violence erupts in the Kalmati area under Bamanhat Gram Panchayat-II of Dinhata Block No. 02 a few hours ahead of the panchayat polls. Incidents of bombing and firing have come to the fore from the area resulting in four BJP workers sustaining severe injuries.


Reports suggest that the local BJP workers were outside a candidate’s residence after campaigning, on Thursday night at around 10 p.m., when a few unidentified miscreants arrived on a bike and allegedly attacked them with bombs and bullets. As a result, four BJP workers sustained severe injuries during the incident.

In response to the incident, BJP worker Piyush Barman stated that BJP workers Milan Barman, Chandra Barman, and Arjun Barman have been shot while an individual, by the name of Hero Barman, has been severely injured. Following this, the four were immediately rushed into the Bamanhat Block Primary Health Centre for treatment. Meanwhile, the Sahebganj police and central security forces arrived at the scene soon after the incident was reported. Fortunately, one of the miscreants involved in the case was caught by the locals in the area and handed over to the police.
