Pradhan Nagar police uncover theft racket, three including two gold traders arrested

Siliguri, 21st January: In a recent development, the cops of Pradhan Nagar police station have arrested two individuals including a thief for purchasing stolen goods. The police have recovered cash of Rs 1 lakh and gold from the arrested accused.


It should be noted that on January 13, an incident of theft occurred in an office located adjacent to the SNT Bus stand under the jurisdiction of the Pradhan Nagar police station where miscreants cut open the office roof and made off with Rs 7 lakhs in cash and approximately 70 grams of gold ornaments. Following this, a complaint was filed with the police station and the investigation was initiated.

During the course of the investigation, on January 17, the police arrested the accused Raja Hussain on charges of theft and took him on transit remand. The accused Raja Hussain admitted to having executed the theft with two accomplices and sold the stolen gold to a gold trader in Mallaguri. Subsequently, the police arrested the accused Arjun Prasad, and took him on police remand from the court.


During the interrogation, the accused Arjun Prasad claimed to have bought the stolen gold, melted it, and sold it to another businessman, Sujit More in Bidhan Market. As a result, on Saturday night, the police also arrested the accused Sujit Mode on charges of dealing in stolen gold. On Sunday, the accused were produced before the Siliguri Court.

In this regard, the police sources claimed that two members of the gang that executed the theft are still at large while the police are on the hunt to nab the accused criminals. Additionally, the police recovered Rs 1 lakh 3 thousand from the stolen cash.
