Siliguri, 21st May: The Pradhan Nagar Police have solved a theft case involving a vacant house in the Samar Nagar area and arrested the main accused after showing his arrest from Jalpaiguri Correctional Home. Another accused involved in purchasing stolen goods has also been arrested during the investigation.
According to police sources, the incident took place on 19 March at a vacant house in the Samar Nagar locality. A written complaint was lodged by Sampa Roy Guha at Pradhan Nagar Police Station on 20 March, following which an investigation was initiated.
During the probe, it was found that the main accused, Pankaj Roy, had already been arrested in another case by Bhakti Nagar Police on 18 April. Acting on court permission, Pradhan Nagar Police showed the arrest of the accused from Jalpaiguri Correctional Home in connection with the present case.
During interrogation, Pankaj Roy reportedly confessed to his involvement in the theft. Based on his statement, police arrested Shyamal Mandal from Bidhan Nagar, who allegedly purchased the stolen items.
Police recovered around 30 grams of gold, 45 grams of silver, and ₹20,000 in cash from the accused. Pradhan Nagar Police Station IC Basudev Sarkar said that vacant houses are increasingly being targeted and urged residents not to leave their homes unattended for long periods.
