Posters demanding local resident as a candidate spotted across Ward No. 37

Siliguri, 26th December: Posters with “Sthaniyo basinda ke prarthi hisebe chai” (We want local resident as a candidate) were spotted across Ward No. 37 on Sunday. The poster was spotted at the important corners of the ward and next to the office of Ranjan Sil Sharma, the former councilor of ward 37.

Ranjan Sil Sharma, the former councilor of Ward No. 37, said, “Our party has nothing to do with this poster. Our party’s candidate is not elected in that way. If a person is a voter of the Siliguri Puranigam area, he/she can legally stand as a candidate in any ward. The posters might have been put up by BJP and CPIM.”

Meanwhile, Tufan Saha, vice-president of BJP’s Siliguri organizational district, said that there is no factionalism of BJP in Siliguri Ward no.37. The names of five candidates for the election have been submitted a year ago. The posters might have been put up on behalf of TMC.

On the other hand, CPIM’s area committee member Nakul Chandra Sarkar said, “CPIM has no factionalism. This is the work of Trinamool and BJP. Such baseless allegations have been made to tarnish our image.”
