Police take strict action against unregistered totos in Siliguri, drivers stage road blockade

Siliguri, 23rd November: As per recent rule, all e-rickshaws (Toto) are prohibited to ply on the city’s national highways and unregistered totos are banned on the main roads. Although the police have conducted multiple raids in the city in the past, several totos are still being spotted plying on the streets defying the law.


This time, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police has greared up to take strict action against any defiers. In the last 3 days, the Traffic Department of the Metropolitan Police have conducted raids and detained many totos.


On the other hand, the toto drivers protested in front of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate by blocking the road. Around 50 demonstrators were arrested by the Matigara police. The toto drivers warned that if such rules continue in the city, they will have no other choice than to turn to anti-social activities. They demanded the police administration look into the issue immediately.

Meanwhile, police sources said that a campaign has been launched against toto on the instructions of Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma. The totos are being detained and kept at the Siliguri Police Commissionerate ground.
