Police recover stolen gold jewellery in Siliguri’s Hatiadanga theft case; one arrested

Siliguri, 26th May: Police under Ashighar Outpost have made a breakthrough in a theft case reported from Hatiadanga area in Siliguri, recovering stolen gold ornaments and arresting one person in connection with the incident.

The arrested accused has been identified as Biswajit Ghosh, a resident of Boro Athiabari area in Dinhata. Police said he used to travel from place to place doing scrap collection work and allegedly carried out thefts under the guise of his occupation.

The incident dates back to 16 May, when a brazen theft took place at a house in Hatiadanga. Following the complaint, police began an investigation and examined CCTV footage, which led to the identification of the accused. He was later arrested on 22 May from the Jaleswari Bazar area.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed and revealed that the stolen gold jewellery had been buried under the ground near a field adjacent to the Eastern Bypass. Acting on his statement, police conducted a search operation and recovered the stolen gold items.

The accused was produced before Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday and was sent for further legal proceedings. Police investigation into the case is ongoing.
