Police raid newspaper editor’s house in Siliguri

Siliguri, 18th July: Police raided the residence of the editor of a Hindi and Nepali daily newspaper located in Ward No. 41 of Siliguri on Sunday afternoon. The search was conducted by the Matigara and Bhaktinagar police who searched the place for several hours. Family members alleged that the officials entered the house without a search warrant and ransacked their house violating the rules. Meanwhile, the journalists of the city, including the Siliguri Journalists Club, have strongly condemned the incident.

Reportedly, a few days ago there was a dispute between two people during a marriage ceremony. The police, who conducted the search operation, claim that one of the accused in that incident is a relative of the aforementioned editor. However, even after searching the house for several hours, the police could not find any leads.

The editor’s son Prajwal Choudhary alleged that the police entered the house without a search warrant. After countering this, the police eventually showed the search warrant. The editor has apparently sent a letter to the Chief Minister opposing the event. On the other hand, the police accused the family of misbehaving with the personnel during the operation.
