Siliguri, 22nd May: Police carried out a special anti-encroachment drive in the Khalpara area of Siliguri on Friday to clear illegally occupied footpaths.
Personnel from Khalpara Outpost, along with central forces, took part in the operation and directed shopkeepers to remove encroachments from the sidewalks.
Police also conducted an anti-drug operation in the area during the drive. According to police sources, authorities had received information about several individuals allegedly involved in drug-related activities in the locality. Based on the inputs, searches were carried out at multiple locations.
However, many suspects reportedly fled the area after noticing the police presence. During the operation, police managed to detain a youth red-handed. He was later taken to the police station for questioning.
