Siliguri, 25th May: Police personnel were allegedly attacked while conducting a raid against anti-social activities in the NJP area of Siliguri on Sunday night.
According to reports, IOC Area-BPC Road was being monitored by NJP police when they conducted the raid and found a group of 10–12 people allegedly involved in anti-social activities. While some managed to flee, five persons were detained for questioning.
During the interrogation, the detained individuals allegedly misbehaved with on-duty police personnel. It is further alleged that ASI Munna Ahmed was attacked with a bottle by one Govinda Roy, causing him to collapse on the spot. The injured officer was immediately taken to Siliguri District Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, police arrested Govinda Roy, Ashish Shah, Amit Roy, Babu Roy, and Basudeb Sarkar. The accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Monday.
