Pineapple cultivation is proving boon for farmers of Kharibari

Kharibari, 08th May: Farmers of the Kharibari region are seen inclined towards pineapple cultivation recently. In view of the growing pineapple cultivation in the Kharibari region, it is being speculated that farmers are opting to cultivate the fruit in addition to corn and other farming.


The farmers of this region mainly cultivate paddy and wheat. But seeing the high income from pineapple cultivation, the farmers are taking it as commercial farming.

Manoj Mahato said that the cultivation of pineapple is proving to be a boon for the farmers of the Kharibari block area of ​​Darjeeling district. And that they are benefitting from the good production of bananas as well as pineapple.


As per the report, Ranjit Saha planted 15 thousand saplings in an acre and it costs 12 to 14 rupees per plant and it takes 17-18 months to grow into fruits. Once the fruits are ready, they take them to the Sonapur Mandi for sale.
