Pending 100-day work project resumes in Kharibari’s Panishali Gram Panchayat

Kharibari, 26th June: Pending work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), popularly known as the 100-day work scheme, resumed in Panishali Gram Panchayat of Kharibari block on Friday.

The Central Government is set to replace the scheme with the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin), or VB-G RAM Gramin Employment Scheme, from July 1. Following the change in government in West Bengal, efforts have been initiated to ensure transparent implementation of rural employment projects in the state.

However, in compliance with directives issued by the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court, two pending projects under the MGNREGA scheme were allowed to continue in two gram panchayats of Kharibari block ahead of the Assembly elections. One such pending project was resumed on Friday near the Bun River in the Chhit Haodabhita constituency under Kharibari Gram Panchayat.

Panishali Gram Panchayat Pradhan Parimal Singh said that ₹4,70,508 had been allocated for the excavation and beautification of a pond under the project. He added that the new employment scheme would provide 125 days of work in the future.

Job card holders expressed happiness after the commencement of the work.
