Pashchim Banga Asha Karmi Union protested at Naxalbari police station against atrocities upon a member by her in-laws

Naxalbari, 30th December: The Pashchim Banga Asha Karmi Union protested at Naxalbari police station against atrocities faced by a member Ruksana Khatoon by her in-laws.


As per sources, Ruksana Khatoon, an Asha worker of Naxalbari Satbhaiya is living in distress after her husband allegedly left her and married another woman. In addition, Ruksana has been allegedly subjected to mental and physically torture by her in-laws.

According to reports, after Ruksana’s husband married another woman, her in-laws allegedly visited her residence, vandalized it, and assaulted her. Subsequently, the Asha worker lodged a complaint at Naxalbari police station. However, the victim alleged that despite the complaint, no action was initiated by the police, which prompted the members of Pashchim Banga Asha Karmi Union to stage a protest at Naxalbari police station on Saturday. The protestors demanded stringent punishment for the culprits and questioned the role of the police.


Speaking in this regard, the victim Ruksana Khatoon alleged that she feared going to work while stating the administration’s inability to initiate action.

Meanwhile, the Vice-President of Pashchim Banga Asha Karmi Union, Jay Lodh claimed that they would resort to massive agitation upon failure to implement significant measures for the safety of women and stand with the victim Asha Karmi. On the other hand, Naxalbari Block Health Officer Dr Kuntal Ghosh assured initiating action after receiving a complaint about the incident.
