Jalpaiguri, 10th April: One youth, identified as Pulak Barman, was arrested for duping several people on the pretext of providing them jobs in the Military Engineer Services (MES) in Ambala. The accused used to claim links with influential political leaders.
As per the report, a few months ago, Pulak Barman had taken lakhs of rupees from multiple people on the pretext of providing them jobs in MES. When Pulak failed to keep his promise even after several days had passed away, the applicants started putting pressure on him to provide a job or return their money. Eventually, the accused youth fled away.
On Saturday, Pulak was nabbed by the youths in Belkhana Bazar area of Jalpaiguri and allegedly thrashed him. On receiving the news, the Kotwali police reached the spot and took the accused into custody.
According to one of the victims, Pulak had taken money from him promising to provide a job through the leaders of the ruling party. Police have initiated an investigation of the matter based on the allegation.
