Kharibari, 01st March: In a significant breakthrough, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel arrested a youth with cannabis at the Panitanki area along the Indo-Nepal border of Kharibari. The accused has been identified as Asraful Sheikh, a resident of Sahebganj, Coochbehar.
According to police sources, the officials of the SSB No. 41 battalion raided and subsequently arrested a youth based on a tip-off. During the search, about 3 kg 44 grams of cannabis was recovered from the youth prompting his arrest.
Later, the SSB handed over the arrested youth along with cannabis to the Kharibari police. Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered cannabis was intended to be smuggled from Cooch Behar to Panitanki. On Friday, the case was forwarded to the Siliguri Court.
