Rajganj, 20th January: Police arrested a nurse on charges of defrauding Rs 5.5 lakh. The arrest was made from the Bhutkihat area on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Rita Karmakar (55), resident of Merchant Road in Jalpaiguri. She was produced in Jalpaiguri court today.
Reportedly, the ANM nurse was working at Sahudangi sub-health centre in Rajganj. Manirul Islam, a primary school teacher in East Balabari of Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat in Rajganj block, alleged that the nurse borrowed Rs.5.5 lakhs from him for her mother’s treatment. However, Rita Karmakar did not return the money despite being asked multiple times.
The teacher later lodged a written complaint against the nurse at Rajganj police station in December. Rajganj police arrested the nurse based on the report. Police are investigating the whole incident.
