Siliguri, 07th March: Pradhan Nagar police have arrested a notorious thief, identified as Navneet Kumar Gupta (29), who used a bullet bike to commit theft, along with Vijay Kumar Sah, a jeweler accused of purchasing the stolen gold.
According to reports, Mintu Pramanik, a resident of Baghajatin Colony, Ward No. 02, lodged a theft complaint at Pradhan Nagar police station on February 26, alleging that 112-114 grams of gold was stolen from his house. During the investigation, police discovered that a Bullet bike was used in the crime.
Tracing the bike’s registration, police found it belonged to a tenant in Shivram Sarani, Ward No. 33 (NJP). However, by the time a raid was conducted, the suspect had changed his hideout. Acting on a tip-off, police launched another raid in Haider Para on February 27, leading to the arrest of Navneet Kumar Gupta.
During interrogation, he admitted to selling the stolen gold at Rani Jewelers in Birpara. Based on his information, police recovered 100 grams of gold and 50 grams of silver from Vijay Kumar Sah, the shop’s owner, who was also arrested.
On February 28, the accused were produced in court, where the judge ordered a four-day remand for Navneet. He also confessed to a theft in Gurung Basti on December 19, 2024. The Bullet bike used in the crimes was recovered from Siliguri Junction Railway parking.
Both accused were produced in court on Friday, and further investigation is underway.
