Siliguri, 18th July: Surat Barman, notoriously known as the ‘land mafia’ has been finally arrested by the Matigara police. Apparently, he was absconding for a very long time.
As per the police sources, Surat Barman had sold lands fraudulently and swindled a number of people’s hard earned money through transaction of land. He used to sell the lands illegally using fabricated and forged land papers. Police received numerous complaints against him and were looking for him for a long time. Finally, last night the police arrested Surat Barman from Dokla gachh area of Matigara.
Police produced Barman in Siliguri court today and registered a case for forging and illegally selling land papers. The police are preparing to take the accused on remand and also probing the whole matter.
