Darjeeling, 14th January: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista expressed his gratitude to Calcutta High Court for asking the WB Election Commission to consider postponing the Municipal elections.
Bista, in a press release, said that although the Chief Minister herself is the Health Minister of the state, even after two years, the health infrastructure has remained unchanged. Today, West Bengal has one of the highest COVID positivity rates in the country. Doctors, nurses, and other frontline COVID warriors have become positive, and cases are exploding on a daily basis.
He accused the Mamata Banerjee government of being more interested in elections, instead of focusing on combating the rising cases of COVID.
"I am hopeful that the TMC Government and WB Election Commission will see the need for postponing the elections after this wake-up call by the Hon'ble High Court, instead of allowing politics and power to overrule basic common sense. Nothing should be more important than saving the lives of our fellow citizens.", he added.
