Northeast Railway cancels multiple trains following protests against Agnipath Scheme 

Siliguri, 17th June: With the announcement of the Agnipath Scheme, thousands of Army aspirants across the country have been protesting in full swing demanding the withdrawal of the scheme. The angry youths, mostly unemployed, are conveying their message by staging road blockades, setting trains on fire, burning tires and marching on the road. 
Railway services were disrupted across the country as protesters blocked tracks and set train coaches ablaze in several states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Telangana. In wake of this, the North Eastern Railway cancelled multiple trains in the interest of passenger safety. 
According to North Eastern Railway management sources, Avadh Assam Express, Mahananda Express, and North East Express have been postponed. Apart from this, 15483 Alipurduar Delhi Express, 15909 Dibrugarh Lalgarh Express, 12505 Kamakhya Anand Bihar Express, and 12508 Silchar Trivandrum Express have been cancelled. Silchar Trivandrum Express will run from Guwahati via Kamakhya, Gwalpara Town till New Bongaigaon. More trains are likely to get cancelled if the protests continue.
