Phansidewa, 25th August: The Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man with 300 grams of brown sugar during an operation at Ghoshpukur More in Phansidewa. Police suspect the accused was allegedly transporting the substance on a passenger bus.
According to information, STF officers conducted an operation at Ghoshpukur More along National Highway 27, where they intercepted a passenger bus travelling from Kolkata to Siliguri. During questioning, the officers reportedly found inconsistencies in the statements of a suspected passenger.
A subsequent search allegedly led to the recovery of 300 grams of brown sugar from his possession. The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Abdur Rahman, a resident of Kaliachak in Malda.
A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was subsequently handed over to Phansidewa Police.
He is scheduled to be produced before the Siliguri court on Tuesday. Phansidewa Police are investigating the case to determine whether others were involved in the alleged drug trafficking operation.
