Siliguri, 01st June: The oath-taking ceremony of the new West Bengal cabinet was held at Lok Bhavan on Monday, with North Bengal receiving significant representation in the newly formed ministry.
The new cabinet, formed with a focus on overall development across the state, has generated excitement across Siliguri and different parts of North Bengal after a total of 10 MLAs from the region found place in the ministry.
While Nisith Pramanik was included in the earlier cabinet led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, representation from North Bengal has increased considerably in the present cabinet.
Among the newly appointed ministers from the region, four have been inducted as Cabinet Ministers, one as Minister of State (Independent Charge) and five as Ministers of State.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, BJP workers and supporters in Siliguri celebrated enthusiastically by distributing sweets among residents and passersby.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP leader Nantu Pal said that for the first time North Bengal has received such large-scale representation in the state cabinet. He expressed hope that the move would accelerate development in the region and address long-standing deprivation issues.
BJP leader Rita Saha also expressed happiness over the development and said North Bengal would now witness rapid progress after remaining neglected for a long time.
