Rajganj, 04th August: Belakoba Park in Rajganj has remained in a dilapidated condition for a long time, with a portion of the premises now reportedly being used as a temporary dumping ground. Local residents have also alleged that anti-social activities take place in the park after evening hours and have urged the new state government to renovate the facility.
According to local sources, the park was developed during the early years of the Trinamool Congress government under the initiative of the then Rajganj MLA. Although it remained open for the public for a brief period, it was later closed and gradually fell into disrepair.
The park is now overgrown with weeds and bushes, with residents alleging frequent snake and insect infestation. As a health centre is located adjacent to the park, locals have also expressed concern that the accumulated waste could lead to the spread of diseases.
Residents have demanded that the park be renovated and reopened for public use at the earliest. They have also urged the authorities to take necessary steps to prevent anti-social activities in the area.
When contacted, Rajganj BJP MLA Dinesh Sarkar said he would visit the park soon and interact with local residents. He assured that the situation would be reviewed and necessary steps would be taken for the park’s renovation.
