Siliguri, 04th August: Four persons were arrested in connection with the alleged theft of a bull from Lalpool area of Naxalbari late at night.
According to information, a few persons allegedly fled with a bull in a vehicle from the state highway at Naxalbari’s Lalpool late Friday night. After CCTV footage of the incident surfaced, local residents approached Naxalbari Police Station and lodged a written complaint demanding the arrest of those involved.
During the investigation, police intercepted a vehicle heading towards Naxalbari during naka checking on Asian Highway 2 on Monday night. Police became suspicious after finding ropes and other items inside the vehicle.
During questioning, inconsistencies were found in the statements of the occupants, following which four accused were arrested and brought to the police station.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nur Alam, Mohammad Rafis, Siddique Ali and Mohammad Rafiqul. All four are residents of Halal Basti in Bagdogra.
The accused were produced before Siliguri court on Tuesday. Police investigation into the incident is underway.
