Siliguri, 05th December: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista inaugurated two important railway infrastructure projects at Siliguri Junction initiated by the Ministry of Railways, NE Frontier Railways. Addressing the media, the MP maintained that he has put forward the request for starting Vande Bharat Trains from Siliguri to Kolkata, also new trains from Siliguri to Katpadi (Vellore), new NJP-New Delhi superfast Express, and upgradation and operationalisation of Gulma Station.
The statement released by Raju Bista stated:
Today, I had the pleasure of inaugurating and dedicating to the people two very important railway infrastructure projects – the Footover Bridge, and AC Executive Lounge at Siliguri Junction. initiated by the Ministry of Railways, NE Frontier Railways in Siliguri.
Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi ji, and Hon’ble Railway Minister Sh. Ashwini Vaishnav ji the rail infrastructure in our region is seeing tremendous boost.
Siliguri has the honour of being a Heritage Station, and every care is being taken to develop the facilities for passengers, while keeping the heritage nature of the station intact. I am also happy to share that a new platform is currently undergoing construction, which is expected to be completed within the next two months. Once completed, the Siliguri Junction will have a total of five platforms, which will enable more trains to stop here.
Given its strategic location, Siliguri sits in the heart of North Bengal region, and it’s the biggest city. Siliguri carries immense potential for growth, and the development of Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region is closely linked with the development of the Siliguri city. It is for this reason, our government has focused on developing multiple infrastructure projects in and around Siliguri, which will help prepare our region for the future. These projects include the elevated highway corridor project, Siliguri city Ring Road Project, Development of NJP Station into a world class station.
Furthermore, I have requested for Vande Bharat Trains to be started from Siliguri to Kolkata, also new trains from Siliguri to Katpadi (Vellore), new NJP-New Delhi superfast Express, and upgradation and operationalisation of Gulma Station. Together, these projects will help ensure ease of transportation, connection, movement of goods and people, attract tourism, and ease of travel for all.
