Movement of traffic over Matigara’s Balason Bridge suspended following heavy rainfall

Siliguri, 20th October: A pillar of Balason Bridge at Matigara has been damaged following heavy rainfall in the region since yesterday. Taking into consideration the safety of the citizens, the movement of traffic over the bridge has been temporarily suspended. Only two-wheelers and pedestrians are being allowed to cross the bridge as of now.


On the other hand, Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma inspected the bridge and instructed the traffic police to bar heavy vehicles to ply through. A huge force of traffic police has been deployed in the area. All three-wheelers and heavy vehicles have been requested to take a right turn from the Shiv Mandir underpass and take the alternative Noukaghat Road. All are advised to avoid non-essential travel until the weather improves.

Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma said that the bridge has been damaged due to heavy rains. Vehicles have been instructed to take detours until the bridge is repaired.
