Siliguri, 20th July: Sensation prevailed after the mysterious death of a man, identified as Mohit Chaulia, came to light in the New Colony under Matigara police station area. Family members and locals highly condemned the incident and alleged that Mohit was murdered. On Tuesday, they staged a road blockade demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Taking swift action, the police on Wednesday arrested Sunita Roy, the wife of the deceased, in connection to the incident. As per the sources, Mohit Chaulia, a resident of the New Colony, married Sunita Roy in November 2020. It has been alleged that the couple would get into arguments quite often. After which, it is alleged that Sunita Roy along with her elder sister Mamuni Mandal and her brother-in-law Jhantu Mandal used to torture Mohit mentally and physically. This broke him mentally and soon started living in a separate place with his wife. Sadly, on Monday evening, Mohit’s body was found hanging in his house.
Following an alleged family dispute at his residence, the body of Mohit was found hanging from a noose. On knowing about his death, his mother, sister and the residents of the area created a ruckus by closing the national highway for about an hour near Khaprail More traffic point, demanding the arrest of the wife.
Later DCP, Kunwar Singh reached the spot and assured the family and the locals to arrest the culprits at the earliest. After which the agitated locals ended their demonstrations. Later, the family of the deceased lodged a complaint in the police station against his wife, her sister Mamuni and her husband Jhnatu Mandal alleging mental torture and assault on Mohit.
While Matigara police arrested Mohit’s wife Sunita Roy, they are looking for Mamuni and her husband Jhantu Mandal as they are on run. Police are waiting for the post-mortem report for further investigation.
