MLA Anandamay Barman raises questions over ‘corporate-style’ office rooms at Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad

Siliguri, 25th May: Fresh controversy has erupted over the newly renovated office rooms of the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, including the office of the Sabhadhipati, after Matigara-Naxalbari MLA Anandamay Barman expressed strong displeasure during a meeting on Monday.

After attending the Mahakuma Parishad session, the MLA alleged that the rooms had been designed like “Corporate offices” and questioned the expenditure incurred on the project.

According to Anandamay Barman, the large amount of money spent on the renovation could have been utilised for public welfare and developmental works instead. He further stated that the matter would be brought to the attention of Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh and demanded a detailed review of the expenditure.

However, denying the allegations, Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh said that not only the Sabhadhipati’s room, but several other rooms had also been renovated and constructed as part of the project.

He claimed that a complete expenditure report of nearly Rs 23 lakh had already been provided to the MLA. Arun Ghosh further stated that anyone is free to review the work and accounts, adding that the Mahakuma Parishad intends to continue functioning with the cooperation of the state government in the coming days.
