Migratory bird counting in Fulbari Barrage under initiative of Forest Department

Rajganj, 31st January: Migratory bird counting took place in Fulbari Barrage, on Monday. Apart from the Forest Department, Bird Watcher Society, Optopic, NAAF, Paschim Banga Vigyan Manch, Meta-Coach, Jalpaiguri Science and Nature Club and several bird-loving organizations participated in the event.


 

The secretary of Optopic stated that every year migratory birds from different countries like Mongolia, Tibet, South Africa, and Siberia gather here. Various species of birds like Ruddy shelduck, Red Fronted Pochard, Gadwall, Whistling Duck, Greater white-fronted goose are seen here.


He added that the number of migratory birds has been on the rise since last year as picnics are discontinued in Fulbari Barrage and the harassment of birds has stopped.
