Mayor Gautam Deb visits injured TMCP leader after Siliguri College clash over admission help desk

Siliguri, 27th May: Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb on Wednesday visited the residence of a TMCP student leader who was seriously injured in a clash at Siliguri College.

The visit comes in the aftermath of a confrontation between Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and ABVP members over the setting up of an admission help desk, which escalated into a violent altercation on Monday morning.

According to reports, the dispute initially began as a verbal argument between the two student organisations regarding the help desk arrangement for the college admission process. The situation soon escalated into a physical clash on campus.

TMCP student leader Vivek Jha sustained serious injuries in the incident. He is currently recovering at home.

Speaking after the visit, Gautam Deb alleged that “outsiders” were involved in attacking the TMCP-run help desk and party student workers. He stated that legal action would be taken and demanded strict punishment for those responsible.
