Rajganj, 17th October: The workers of the Mansarovar tea factory in Rajganj staged a protest over Durga Puja bonus, on Sunday.
Around 70 people are employed in the Mansarovar factory under Binnaguri Gram Panchayat of Rajganj. The workers staged a protest in front of the factory gate demanding a 20 percent bonus.
The workers alleged they work hard all year round and wait for the bonus during Puja. However, they have been not been paid any amount yet.
Tapan Dey, Jalpaiguri district secretary of the Trinamool Industrial Estate Workers Union, said, “Starting today we have started a gate meeting in front of the factory. We will continue our agitation demanding a 20 percent bonus. If we do not receive any letter from the association within 72 hours, we will not allow the transportation of tea leaves.”
In this regard, Manager Rana Sarkar said that according to the announcement of the owners’ organization, a 17 percent bonus was promised as an advance but the workers did not agree with their decision.
