Man trampled to death by a wild elephant in Rajganj

Rajganj, 30th November: One person was killed in an elephant attack, on Monday evening. The incident took place in the Karaladubi area of Saraswatipur garden under the Ambari Range of the Baikunthapur division of Rajganj. The deceased has been identified as Selbester Oraon.


Reportedly, Oraon was returning home from work in the evening when he was severely injured in an elephant attack. He was later rescued and admitted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at night.

The family of the deceased said that Oraon used to work as a temporary labourer under Neem Beat of the forest department. He left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter. As the sole breadwinner passed away, the family has appealed to the forest department to provide a job as a labourer to one of their sons.


Range officer Sudipta Sarkar said the man was not a temporary worker in the forest department. However, the family will be compensated as per the rules of the department.
