Man lost Rs 30k to cyber fraud after ordering online in Siliguri

Siliguri, 31st October: A case of cyber fraud has surfaced from Siliguri where a man lost Rs 30,000 from his account while ordering a toy. The victim Abhishek Nandi is a resident of the Shaktigarh area of Siliguri. Following the incident, a written complaint was filed at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Wing. On the basis of the complaint, an investigation was initiated by the police.


As per reports, Abhishek ordered a toy (dolphin) worth Rs 287 through an online app on October 13. The ordered item was received on the 27th. However, due to a mismatch in the product, the young man decided to return the order.

Meanwhile, his order could not be returned due to a technical error with the app. Subsequently, Abhishek posted the photo of the goods on his X (Twitter) account, to which, he received a reply from the said online app. Upon contacting the fraud, the young man was trapped in a well-planned web of cyber thugs as he lost Rs 30 thousand.


In this regard, the victim stated that he had ordered a dolphin (toy) through an online app but a pillow was delivered to him. He added that when he was contacted via X (Twitter) after he posted a photo, he was given a number to contact the fake online app which got him trapped. Furthermore, Abhishek admitted that due to a small mistake, he had become a victim of cyber fraud. He appealed to the people to remain alert and aware of cyber fraud.
