Man dies after being attacked with sharp weapon in Siliguri

Siliguri, 6th June: In a shocking incident that surfaced from Ashighar More area of Siliguri, an individual identified as Swapan Barman was murdered with a sharp weapon following a dispute over Rickshaw theft, on Tuesday. The deceased was a resident of Pipeline area, Chayanpara. Following the incident, there has been a situation of panic and fear among the residents and businessmen of the area.


Allegedly, few days ago, a person namely Niranjan Modak from Dinhata had stolen rickshaw from Barman’s house, which led to a dispute between the duo. In this regard, a complaint was lodged at the Police Station. Following this, on Monday night, the accused Niranjan stole another rickshaw and carried on the dispute which worsened the situation.

Reportedly, this morning, when Swapan went to have tea at a shop in Ashighar More, Niranjan attacked him with a sharp weapon and left him unconscious. The locals rescued him and rushed him to Siliguri District Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, when the accused tried to flee from the scene, the locals caught him.


Currently, Ashighar Outpost Police have arrested the accused, and initiated investigation into the matter.
