Naxalbari, 21st May: Police arrested an individual for sexually assaulting a minor in the Hatighisa area, under Naxalbari block. The accused, identified as Kartik Roy, is a resident of Hatighisa. Reportedly, for the past two years, Kartik Roy would exploit the minor by luring her under the pretext of engaging in religious devotional singing.
It is alleged that several days ago, the accused raped the minor. Following the incident, the health of the minor started deteriorating, and it was during this time that the family members became aware that minor was pregnant and of what had transpired.
Later, the relatives of the minor filed a written complaint against the accused at the local police station on Saturday night. Acting upon the complaint, the Naxalbari police initiated an investigation and apprehended the accused from Dakshin Dinajpur. Today, the accused was presented before the Siliguri Divisional Court.
The family members of the minor have alleged that the accused has been involved in similar incidents in the past as well. They demanded harshest possible punishment to the accused.
